Abstract:
This dataset provides information about the remaining leaf litter mass of the Unlabelled NILEx litter decomposition plots.
Design:
11 leaf decomposition plots per block with 10 mesocosms, four with mesofauna exclusion (timesteps 1-4, mesh size 15 mm), four with mesofauna inclusion (timesteps 1-4, mesh size 0,25 mm), one backup mesocosm with mesofauna exclusion (sampled at timestep 3)

Species pool 1 (block 1 and 3): Senescent leaves of Liquidambar formosana, Machilus thunbergii, Quercus serrata, Schima superba; Species pool 2 (block 2 and 4): Schima superba, Castanopsis eyrei, Castanea henryi, Cyclobalanopsis glauca;
Leaves were used to create all possible monoculture, 2- and 4- species mixtures per species pool
Measurement cirumstances:
Damage of block 1 & 3 before timestep 3; Leaves were very dirty and it was hard to clean and separate them according to species
Data analysis:
Leaves of two mesocosms per plot (one of each treatment) were sampled at 4 timesteps. The leaves were cleaned, separated according to species, died at 40°C and weighted. The dataset shows the remaining litter mass in gram an percent for all timesteps for the species mixture.
