Abstract:
Leaf traits of tree species, including chemical elements, leaf tensile strength, stomata characteristics, and secondary metabolites. Note that these data are species averages derived from the dataset "Leaf traits and chemicals from individual trees in the Gutianshan Nature Reserve". The data presented here is an extended version of the Dataset "CSPs: Leaf traits and chemicals of 122 tree species in the CSPs" (Dataset 428). The present dataset includes a higher number of morphological and chemical traits as well as statistical measures derived from averaging over all sampled individuals (i.e. sample size per species, sd of the mean).
Design:
Leaf samples were taken from sun-exposed branches with an expandable pruner. Only completely developed leaves were sampled, without visible herbivore damage and preferably free of leaf fungi. Seven leaves were collected per individual and the majority of species was sampled in five to seven CSPs. Every species was sampled only from one individual per CSP. Rare species that occurred with less than five individuals in all CSPs had a correspondingly lower number of replicates.
