Description:
We will survey the understorey vegetation, and collect medicinal plants for chemical analyses of active substances content. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of these substances will be studied by inhibition of reactive oxygen species generation from stimulated human neutrophils, and cytokines/chemokines release from human neutrophils and monocytes/macrophages. We will further estimate plant fruit yield, diversity of fungi (barcoding of soil samples) and yield of edible mushroom species three times per season during two growing seasons. Fruit and mushroom nutrition values will be estimated by CN analyses (proteins), GCTOF MS (fatty acids profile), HPLC RI (carbohydrates content) and atomic absorption spectrometry (trace elements).
