Abstract:
Caterpillar MOTU based species survey and morphological trait measurements. Data collected from site A extinction scenario A trees following TreeDi tree species pair (TSP) sampling design.
Design:
Trees were selected according to tree species pair design using mostly the trees in TreeDi general design with only minor supplements. 16 tree species from tree richness levels from 1-24 were selected in pairs providing approximately between 5 and 9 individuals of each tree species per tree richness level. Due to high mortality the tree amount per richness level was in some cases less than 5. Caterpillars were collected with a beating tray method and stored individually to 100% ethanol in the field and further stored to -20 Celsius. All samples were DNA sequenced for standard COI fragment used in DNA-barcoding using Sanger sequencing platform. Trait measurements were done in laboratory prior to DNA sequencing, or in the case of head related traits after sequencing from detached head capsules.
