Abstract:
We studied eight tree species growing in a long gradient of local neighbourhood tree species richness (0 - 7 heterospecific neighbours). We assessed biodiversity effects on water availability by using a target tree’s twig wood carbon isotope composition as an integrated indicator for leaf-level responses to water availability in relation to local neighbourhood tree species richness and functional traits.
