Abstract:
The great 2008 ice storm destroyed considerable areas in the Gutianshan Nature Reserve. In the Comparative Study Plots (CSPs) we quantified the amount of wood downed by the ice storm (coarse woody debris data). Dead wood was identified to species level if possible and dimensions were measured. Charactersistics like decay class, position, mortality cause, location, soil contact and presence or absence of fungi, termites and red rot (rotfäule) were recorded. Wood density and functional group of each species were assigned from literature.
