Name:
Dr.Forest_Task 3-2: Ticks and tick-borne diseases.
Description:
We will quantify tick abundance and their temporal population dynamics (spring, summer) by flag trapping. The detection of tick-borne pathogens (bacteria and viruses) will be done by molecular methods (DNA-PCR for Borrelia, RT-PCR for phleboviruses). We will include data on potential drivers of tick dynamics such as microclimate, forest structure, and understorey vegetation as co-variates. To assess tick predation by arthropods we will use the “sentinel prey cards” approach, consisting of sticky cardboards with attached ticks that are exposed in the field.
