Abstract:
Soil samples for macrofauna were taken during the 2017 SoilForEUROPE field sampling campaign with the aim to assess whether tree species mixing influences macrofauna abundance, biomass and diversity. This dataframe contains the measured subplot-level data.

For each plot, 3 soil monoliths of 25x25x25 cm were excavated in three of the respective five subplots ("tree triplets"). Forest floor and mineral soil were sorted separately and animals were directly fixed in 70% ethanol. All individuals were counted and assigned to a broad taxonomic group by Pierre Ganault and then weighted to the nearest 0.01 mg after gently drying them with a paper towel. Identification to species was done by Pierre Ganault for earthworms, by Jean-François David for woodlice and millipedes, by Etienne Iorio for centipedes, and by Alain Pasquet and Christophe Mazzia for spiders.
