Abstract:
LAI was measured directly using 33 cm diameter planting pots in the plots. The pots were directly fixed to the ground. Three pots were placed in monocultures and five pots in polycultures. Litter was collected every 2 to 4 weeks and gathered in a drying chamber at 38°C. The the leaf litter was sorted by species and plot, dried for 48h at 80°C and the weighed. The dryweight was multiplied with the fitting SLA (specific leaf area) to DWT (dry weight) ratio and then converted to the LAI in m² leaf area per m² stand area.
