Abstract:
The main objectives of this task are to quantify litterfall production and its composition and chemical content over time, and to relate this information to tree diversity and environmental gradients across sites. By relating litter production data with data on aboveground stand-level productivity and root biomass production, this task will also test the assumption that litter production is a good proxy for productivity.Contains dry weight data of different litter fractions sorted by: leave litter per plot per species (devided in target species for the respective plot and non-targed species), woody material, reproductive material, animals and undefinable rest.
Design:
See sampling protocol: “Litter production and element fluxes” and deliverable 3.5 "Litter fluxes" for details.
Spatial extent:
Germany, Hainich
Temporal extent:
November 2012 – December 2013.
Taxonomic extent:
Fagus sylvatica, Acer pseudoplatanus, Fraxinus excelsior, Quercus spec. (either Quercus petraea or Quercus robur), Picea abies
Measurement cirumstances:
Due to snow fall or other unfavourable conditions, litter could not be collected on a two-weekly basis as described in the protocol.
