  <title>Periconiella liquidambaricola sp. nov. - a new Chinese hyphomycete</title>
<rationale>The new species Periconiella liquidambaricola, collected on living leaves of Liquidambar formosana (Altingiaceae) in China, Jiangxi Province, is described, illustrated and compared with other species of the genus Periconiella. P. liquidambaricola is the first species described from a host belonging to the Altingiaceae in general and Liquidambar in particular. The new species is well characterised by its very long conidiophores and smooth, pale scolecosporous conidia. Periconiella lygodii, an Indian species on Lygodium flexuosum, has similar conidia, but the conidiophores are much shorter (&lt; 500 µm), often enlarged at the very base, the conidia have obtuse apices, and this species forms definite leaf spots.</rationale>
